Awesome Recent Website Redesigns

Posted Posted by hacking tips in , Comments 0 comments

It’s always so interesting when you go to a website you’ve been visiting for months or years to find they’ve beenredesigned.
Some redesigns are immediately evocative of the old design, and can even leave you wondering if they have, in fact, been redesigned, or just done a little revamping. Others are so complete you have to double-check and make sure you’ve landed on the right website.
Remember that keeping some elements consistent from your old design to your new one can aid visitors in knowing they’ve arrived at the right place. Otherwise, they might assume your company has been bought out or closed and the domain has been taken over by someone else.
Below are thirteen awesome redesigns from the past year or so… Each one also has some in-depth analysis of what’s been changed and what hasn’t, and the effect that they may have on the site’s visitors.

The Creepy Art of Human Bones

Posted Posted by hacking tips in Comments 0 comments

François Robert is a photographer renowned for both his commercial and fine art photography work.
In the mid 90’s, Robert purchased three lockers from a school for $50.00 to furnish his studio. To his surprise, one of the lockers contained a human skeleton, which had been mounted for teaching purposes.
Since he always had a fascination with bones, once spending five weeks photographing skulls in the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, he decided to take some of his free time caused by the recession of 2007 and trade in his skeleton for a collection of 206 loose bones.
He arranged these into simple, yet controversial shapes to form the images that you see below over a period of hundreds of hours, resulting in a collection that he titled “Stop the Violence” - a series that he created to increase awareness of war violence. The results are amazing, yet haunting. Check them out below…

The resources below can help you improve your web typography, regardless of which camp you fall into.
There are tools for creating unique typography, references and articles that can teach you typographic principles, and plenty of inspiration and news to keep you updated on the state of web typography.

40 Beautiful Examples of Car Photography

If diamonds are womens’ best friends, cars and supercars are certainly men’s. These mean machines are attractive in many ways; the styles (interior and exterior), the speed and even engine sound make them hard to resist. Just because not all of us can own one of our dream cars, that doesn’t stop us from taking the best shot out of them.

Car photography is no easy task. Different techniques are used depending on whether they are prowling on the streets or stay put right before your lens. For amateur photographers, it takes great patience and a lot of practice before you can truly bring out the action and elegance in car photography. Panning shots is one of the most challenging things I’ve encountered while doing car photography. Choosing the background is important; the correct background can either gives your car a clear contrast or it can create significant dramatic effect. You don’t want to have a photo of your car blending into the complex city background or a sports car that looks stationary.
In today’s post, I’ve collected a total of 40 great looking shots of cars and I hope you’ll be inspired. Lastly I’d like to borrow this proverb from Curt Scott:
"A picture may indeed be worth 1,000 words, but one good photograph of your car is worth 10,000 crappy snapshots."

Beautiful and Useful 404 Error Pages for Inspiration
Errors don’t need to be ugly. On the Web, any links that are broken result in a 404 Not Found error message. There are two ways you can address this issue when your user navigates towards a broken link.

Option 1: Present the user with an old and boring default error page, which displays no information other than "There’s an error."
Option 2: The second solution is to present them with a custom error page design that can suggest alternative things they can see or do in order to resolve their problem.
Which one do you think is better? Obviously, the second option.
Here is a collection of 30 beautiful and creative 404 Not Found error message pages.
